As is the case with many musicians who got their artistic start in another field, Evan Abeele and Denise Nouvion intended their project to be more than just musical: Nouvion’s visual aesthetic lends Memoryhouse’s output a bit of its sense of space and shadings of mood, while Abeele’s classical training in composition probably accounts for some of the band’s detailed yet subtle song structures. Whatever the reason, listening to Memoryhouse conjures a walk into the surreal world of the abandoned late-night radio studio from Night of the Comet just before Mary Woronov takes off into the great beyond. On tour in support of its latest release, The Slideshow Effect, Memoryhouse has boosted its sonic impact with a full band, but without losing its signature haunted dreaminess.
