Over the past few years, Ryan McRyhew has been a perpetrator of innovative electronic music that more people should have heard. As a member of BDRMPPL, he hashed together worldbeat rhythms and dub with experimental electronic music, and as Thundercade, he’s put out albums that explore various edges of electronic composition. But he’s most well-known for the emotionally stirring dance songs he performed with his wife, Kristi Schaefer, as Hideous Men. While Schaefer has been busy in grad school on her way to making the world a better place, McRyhew has been furthering his songwriting skills as Thug Entrancer (due at the Meadowlark on Thursday, March 22). Last year’s Tropics Mind album revealed another side of his talent as he wove together IDM and non-Western rhythms for a panoramic, retro-futurist sound. Some people sample songs; as Thug Entrancer, McRyhew samples aesthetics.
