Last month’s DIY Blacktop Festival in the Denver Theatre District was no fluke — it marked the first step of Recuperatio|12: A series of twelve interdisciplinary events organized by the School of Critical Engagement. The twelve-month program will eventually align with next year’s Biennial of the Americas, exploring modes of economic development for arts entrepreneurs along the way.

Step Two will throw some deserved light on Prism Glass Works, a building full of work spaces and studios, with an evening of music, dance and performance that fires up at 7 p.m. Saturday, October 27, with a short lecture and discussion on the goals of SCE’s project, followed by the fun, both serious and not-so-serious.

Along with the culture — including performances inside and outside by the experimental dance group Control Group Productions, the music of Samarai Buck and Gemini Trajectory, and more — there will be food trucks, and costumes and kids are both encouraged. For more information, visit the Facebook event page; tickets, $5 to $10, will be for sale at the door or visit recuperatio|12 online.

Will you step up to support Westword this year?

At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $23,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.

$50,000
