Reel Social Club’s second annual Summer Scream at Lakeside Amusement Park is all about fun for film buffs. Because it’s closed to the general public, the Denver Film Society’s biggest fundraiser of the year gives attendees free rein among the bumper cars, scooter boats, Tilt-A-Whirl and, of course, the Cyclone roller coaster. Summer Scream drew more than a thousand people in 2011, and the organization’s goal is to double attendance this year. “But still, that doesn’t mean long lines for rides,” says the society’s Karla Rodriguez.
Summer Scream runs from 6 to 11 p.m. at Lakeside Amusement Park, 4601 Sheridan Boulevard; tickets to the 21+ event are $30 in advance and $35 at the gate (Reel Social Club members get in free with an RSVP to reelsocialclub@denverfilm.org). Proceeds benefit the Denver FilmCenter’s yearly programming, which includes movie screenings and visits by important writers, directors and actors — all crucial to the nonprofit’s mission of keeping Colorado connected to the international film community.
