Paper 2012 is music made for a niche within a niche. The Latino hip-hop movement is often overlooked, but Tonic Alize’s star-studded lineup and radio-friendly production make it hard to ignore. With features from Lil Flip, Do or Die, Amanda Perez, Lil Rob, MC Magic, Brown Boy and Baby Bash, Alize aims for a certain demographic, but ends up blowing the target clean out of the water. One of the most interesting songs is produced by local Simes Carter; titled “Nympho,” it’s got a hard-hitting, club-worthy beat with a very catchy hook. Despite the overall quality of the production, the lyrics rarely venture beyond money (hence the title) and women. Still, this is a quality project that deserves a listen.
