Kirk’s Soul Kitchen, a new soul-food eatery in Aurora, is opening its doors tomorrow at 11 a.m, offering the first 100 customers free dessert and a 10 percent discount. The menu has soul standards “straight from the south,” including crispy fried chicken, seasoned with a secret blend of fresh herbs and spices, “cheesy mac & cheese” and “momma’s homemade peach cobbler with handmade crust.”
Owner Jay Berry dedicated the restaurant to his late step-father, known as Captain Kirk, who had a big influence on Berry’s life. “He told me that his biggest goal in life was for our family to succeed and he opened the door to the beginning,” Berry says.
“Cooking is like love! Love with your soul, cook with your soul” (the restaurant’s motto) best sums up Soul Kitchen’s philosophy, putting heart and soul into every bite.
The hours for Kirk’s Soul Kitchen are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
