The annual cross-country mountain-bike race to benefit the National Sports Center for the Disabled takes on a new name and format this year with the inaugural Trax-n-Trails Bike Challenge at Winter Park, featuring both competitive and recreational racing.

“We’re looking forward to getting some more serious riders up there for the competitive race,” says NSCD special-event supervisor Ashley Skrdlant. That race will be fourteen to eighteen miles, depending on the snowmelt; there will also be a more casual eight-to-ten-mile ride.

Registration for both is $60 ($35 for kids twelve and under) and includes lunch and a full-day pass to the resort’s Trestle Bike Park. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Burton Lounge at West Portal in the Winter Park base area; the competitive race starts at 10 a.m., followed by the recreational race at 11:30 and a bike parade for kids at 1:45 p.m.

“We rely on the success of these events as a huge part of funding to support the adaptive and therapeutic programs of the NSCD,” Skrdlant says. NSCD offers camps, clinics and other programs year-round for athletes of all ages and abilities. For details and to register, visit nscd.org or call 303-316-1518.
