A lot of people in their mid-teens probably cut their teeth playing punk or surf or garage rock. The young guys in the Baltic, though, sound as though they’ve absorbed the expansive spirit and introspective sounds of post-rock bands like Sigur Rós, particularly on “Green Girl.” They don’t fill every space with noise, like many young (in terms of experience rather than chronological age) bands tend to do. “Demise,” meanwhile, reveals a Ride influence in its percussion and the way the guitars glitter and soar over a melodic bass line, the vocals ever so slightly in the background. But, here, too, the sophistication of the songwriting and the sensitivity to space are impressive, while the soundscaping is gorgeous and lush.
