At last night’s ESPY awards, Nuggets coach George Karl won the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance — and he didn’t use his time at the microphone to mumble platitudes about Karl’s cancer fight, which kept him off the team’s bench for the final (and key) part of last season. Instead, in a gruff but strong voice, he said it was time for the federal government to increase its contributions to cancer research, putting up a dollar for each one donated by other sources. Hard to imagine something like that happening in this economic climate, but Karl made a forceful argument. Check it out below:
