The challenges facing local news organizations are very real. That's why reader support matters more than ever. If you believe independent journalism matters, make a contribution today and help us reach our summer fundraising goal of $25,000 by August 9.
The Citizen Oversight Board — the seven-member group set up as a watchdog for the city’s Safety Department — had already changed the venue for tonight’s quarterly public forum to a larger venue.
After all, the board anticipated a big turnout and plenty of questions for its guest speaker: Manager of Safety Ron Perea. But now the guest speaker has changed, too.
Not surprisingly, given the fact that Perea resigned on Monday in the wake of the uproar over the alleged police beating of Michael DeHerrera, the embattled manager will not be appearing tonight. Instead, the board sent out yet another update yesterday: The guest speaker will be Mary Malatesta, “deputy (presumptive acting) manager of safety.”
The forum runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at Temple Emanuel Social Hall, 51 Grape Street.
Unless there’s another change. For updates,go here.
