Evita, the famous story of Eva Perón, is a timeless tale about the First Lady of Argentina; it takes viewers from her life as a girl from a poor rural family through her rise as a political figure and spokeswoman for the underprivileged. Though Perón died at the age of 33, her legacy is a resilient one that was immortalized in the late ’70s with the debut of Evita. The play, by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber, returns to the Buell Theatre stage tonight for a run that continues through January 26.
Songs like “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina” and “You Must Love Me” allow Perón’s story to blossom in a way that only Weber could lyrically fashion. In her first leading role, Caroline Bowman, a stage actress who has appeared in such Broadway hits as Wicked and Kinky Boots, will play the part of Perón.
