A couple of days ago, a friend mentioned what he thought was a sound, wise, and terribly depressing investment opportunity: Vegas had released the over/unders for NFL teams’ regular season wins, and the Broncos’ number was enticingly high: 7.5. For the responsible among you, this means that if you bet a paycheck on the “over,” the Broncos would have to win eight or more games for you to double your money.
Of course, I was drooling over the opposite bet. After the Springer-worthy off-season the Broncos have endured — combined with a schedule that appears concocted by a drunken Bernie Kosar — it’s truly hard to imagine them winning eight games. Not with the likes of Indianapolis, Dallas, New England, Pittsburgh, Philly and the Giants dotting their Schedule from Hell.
So, naturally, last night I went looking for the odds online. What I found was not nearly as attractive.
Yes, I did find what my friend was talking about — odds from the Venetian with the Broncos at 7.5. But I also found a more realistic number, at VegasInsider.com: 6.5. Now that’s a more interesting bet, one I’m less moistened over. But still: Do you see Kid Lies-a-lot and the Bearded One leading the Broncos to seven wins?
