Rather than celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by downing sickly green beer at a pub this year, why not dress in your finest green duds and head to Boettcher Concert Hall? That’s where you’ll find New York-based Irish-American fiddle player Eileen Ivers and her five-piece band, Immigrant Soul, playing Celtic songs both old and new, along with selections from Riverdance, of which she was a part.
“Even though it’s hundreds of years old, it’s a very strong tradition that’s still relevant,” Ivers says of the Irish music she plays. “It’s music of the people, so it’s very emotive. It’s very honest music, and it seems to really draw audiences into the passion of it.” In fact, it’s not uncommon for audiences to sing and clap along during the evening, which will include performances with the Scott O’Neil-conducted Colorado Symphony Orchestra and dancing by students from the Wick School of Irish Dance.
Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Soul will perform tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Boettcher Hall, in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Tickets, $25 to $88, are available at coloradosymphony.org.
