One reason Westword awarded last summer’s inaugural Valverde Bazaar the Best New Flea Market designation in our 2014 Best of Denver issue is the fact that it’s so hard to pin down, and that keeps us all on our toes. Like a labyrinth of earthly delights, the Valverde is a sensual shopping experience in every way, partly because of the selective curation of antiques dealer Eron Johnson, who was inspired by his own romantic memories of perusing English street markets when pulling the vendor mix together. Neither fully a craft fair nor an antiques market, the bazaar, which unfolds on the grounds of Johnson’s Valverde neighborhood warehouse, is just…different from anything else you’ve experienced in Denver.
“I’m happy with the way this is turning out,” Johnson says of the first Valverde Bazaar of 2014. “It’s a real cross-section of different types of vendors. I turned down some things that were too similar, because I didn’t want to dilute the quality.” Expect everything from handcrafted canned pickles, candies and cut flowers to unusual jewelry, art and collector’s items — and if you get hungry, seven food trucks will be parked in front, serving all kinds of on-the-go fare.
Visit the bazaar at Eron Johnson Antiques (where Johnson will be hosting an exclusive “sneak preview” sale, indoors), 389 South Lipan Street, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today only; find details about vendors and other information at valverdebazaar.com.
