Sexpot Comedy will celebrate the six-month anniversary of its showcases at the Oriental Theater by booking its biggest headliner yet. “I think bringing in a comic the caliber of Andy Kindler is a testament not only to the success of the Sexpot Comedy monthly shows at the Oriental, but to the growth of the Sexpot brand overall,” says organizer and ganjapreneur Kayvan Khalatbari. “It’s cool to hear that people in L.A. and NYC are actively discussing Sexpot and all the progressive things that Andy Juett and I are trying to do in collaboration with this amazing Denver scene.”
Known for his roles on Bob’s Burgers and Everybody Loves Raymond, Kindler has also appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman close to forty times, and he’s revered and hated in equal measure for his scathing critiques of hack comedians in his annual State of the Industry roasts at Montreal’s Just for Laughs festival.
“Really, we’re just trying to book people named Andy at the end of the day,” jokes producer and avowed “Andy”-rights activist Juett. “We’re super-excited to not only have an icon like Andy Kindler on our six-month Sexpot Comedy anniversary show, because we respect him greatly, but we’re also crazy-thrilled for Chuck Roy to be on this show on the heels of filming his Hulu special.” The lineup this month also includes local favorites Bobby Crane, Christie Buchele, Mara Wiles and host Jordan Doll.
“We’ve only just begun,” says Khalatbari. “This show will set the stage for an impressive finish to 2014 that will be filled with some big names and even bigger surprises. Stay tuned.” Doors at the Oriental, 4335 West 44th Avenue, open at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show. Information and tickets, $20, are available at theorientaltheater.com.
