Ten new films from the Pacific Rim will be on view this week in the eighth edition of the Aurora Asian Film Festival. The four-day event is sponsored by the Denver Film Society, the Aurora Asian/Pacific Community Partnership and the City of Aurora.

Festival highlights: Electric Shadows (China), director Xiao Jiang’s study of love and tragedy in the lives of unwanted children (opening night, Thursday, June 2, 7 p.m.); and Crying Ladies (Philippines), a comedy about the tradition of hiring mourners to fill out the ranks of funeral, where copious tears are said to assure a loved one’s ascendancy to heaven (closing night, Sunday, June 5, 6 p.m.).

Other films include Buffalo Boy (Vietnam), Friday, June 3, 7 p.m.; Yesterday Once More (Hong Kong), Friday, June 3, 9 p.m.; Repatriation (South Korea), Saturday, June 4, 1 p.m.; The World (China), Saturday, June 4, 4 p.m.; 19 Revolutions (USA/India), Saturday, June 4, 7 p.m.; The Overture (Thailand), Saturday, June 4, 9 p.m.; Beautiful Boxer (Thailand), Sunday, June 5, 1:30 p.m.; and A State of Mind (U.K./North Korea), Sunday, June 5, 4 p.m..
