Where there is legal pot, there’s bound to be pot art. Denver artist Michael Canada is banking on the assumption that if people in Colorado can smoke pot in their homes, perhaps they’ll want some pot-inspired imagery over their mantels to go along with it. Although there’s no way to prove it, Canada says that Join the Reeferlution — a group exhibition by local artists celebrating legal weed — is the first of its kind in the nation.
But first ever or not, there will be other draws at this show’s opening: Along with the art exhibit and live music, Frank McDonald, the self-proclaimed mayor of Stoner, Colorado, will be on hand to discuss his plans for the marijuana mecca, and Geri Garcia’s Stoner Wear clothing line will be on display. And then — as if you didn’t see this coming — there will be edibles to taste, and bring-your-own smoking will be allowed inside the building during the 21-and-older reception.
Revel in reefer on and off the wall from 6 to 11 p.m. tonight at Black Vulture Gallery and Tattoo, 3602 Morrison Road; admission is $3 (or $5 for two). And, yes, you can get a tattoo while you’re there; they start at $20 for a cancer ribbon. Join the Reeferlution will remain on view through July 30; visit the show’s Facebook event page for details.
