It was 2002, and I cannot believe the evening I had. It started at 8 p.m., when we (me, my boyfriend’s mom, and my girls) were already getting dressed and soon would be on our way out the door to hear my boyfriend make his big debut on stage by promoting his CD. I was so proud of him and honored to be his girl. He had told me that I was the inspiration for the song he was performing tonight and he was going to dedicate it to me in front of his mom and everyone. As well, he had a big surprise for me tonight. I was looking good, and when I arrived, he came over to me and said, “You know I love you, right?” I smiled and kissed his cheek.

We had a VIP table, and one moment before the show began, two females had joined our table — a girl I had seen my boyfriend talking to before, but I thought she was a groupie. Later that night, I found out she wasn’t. She, too, was his girlfriend, and the surprise was she was expecting his baby. That night I died, because he had the nerve to say “I’ll see you at home later.”

My heart was broken, and I wanted to fight. Bad idea. I got thrown out of the club, broke my new glasses, my friend’s car got towed because we parked in an area that we weren’t supposed to park, my boyfriend’s mom was mad at me because I made a scene, and I had to pay for the cab ride home because we weren’t drunk enough to get a free cab. And when we got to my house, I discovered that I had either lost my keys or left them in the cab, which had left already.

So we had to walk six blocks in the cold to my boyfriend’s mom’s house (she was already pissed) for the spare keys. When we arrived there, my boyfriend, the girl and his mother were inside her house, and we could see them toasting glasses. I just stood there and bawled my eyes out. And that’s my story. What a New Year’s Eve!
