There’s no brewery at Brewery Bar II — although there’s plenty of beer, often served in a giant, frosted mug known as the Tiny. Still, there’s a brewery in this joint’s distant past: the Tivoli Brewery, the venerable building at the edge of downtown where the Brewery Bar got its start back in 1954. Twenty years later, when that part of town was being turned into the Auraria Campus (the old Tivoli is now a student union), the Brewery Bar packed up and moved to 150 Kalamath Street, where it became Brewery Bar II.
Today, this bar is one of the town’s true classic dives.
To mark its 36th anniversary, Brewery Bar II is throwing a Customer Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, with half-price apps, $2 domestic beers and $3.25 margs, and $4 breakfast burritos.
There will also be live entertainment, including the Acme Tribute Band from 3 to 6 p.m. And then, of course, there’s the Broncos game — which you can watch on Brewery Bar’s new TVs.
That’s not all that’s new in the Brewery Bar world: Brewery Bar III opened down near Park Meadows in 2003, and Brewery Bar IV opened in Aurora in 2006. Although these locations lack the classic divey atmosphere of II, their menus are the same — and their kitchens turn out the same incredibly hot green chile that has won Brewery Bar so many fans over the past fifty-plus years.
