Left Hand Brewing Company will release a new IPA for a good cause next month. The beer — which is brewed with orange zest and aged with maple Louisville Slugger baseball bats — is a collaborative effort from nine craft breweries throughout the country. Each brewery will brew the same recipe, and proceeds from the sales will benefit Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit that provides emergency assistance to military families and wounded soldiers. Westword‘s Danielle Lirette stopped by Left Hand yesterday for a firsthand look at the brewing process.

The recipe was originally developed in 2011 by Fremont Brewing Co. in Seattle and Center of the Universe Brewing Co. in Virginia. Seven additional breweries have signed on for this year’s batch, including Left Hand, Cigar City, Perennial Artisan Ales, Sly Fox, St. Arnold’s, 21st Amendment, The Phoenix Ale Brewery and Stone Brewing Co.
Left Hand’s 55-barrel batch was brewed (and will be packaged) with donated ingredients and materials courtesy of the following: Hops Direct (hops), OI and Tricor Braun (bottles), DWS (labels) and Moxie Sozo (label design).
