This is one way to get politicians’ attention.
Yesterday, around 150 activists descended on the offices of Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall to urge them to avoid “fiscal cliff” negotiations that protect the wealthy and burden the middle class. Protesters did so in 24 different shifts every twenty minutes, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event, in which activists urged the officials that “no deal is better than a bad deal” when it comes to the looming “fiscal cliff,” was organized by Colorado Fair Share, an advocacy group known for its colorful protests and creative tactics to pressure elected officials on various issues.
In Aurora, the organizers went after Representative Mike Coffman, one of the group’s regular targets, to ask him to extend middle class tax cuts and to raise taxes on the wealthiest 2 percent.
