Some boosters think Colorado needs celebrities in the worst way. And that’s how this state gets them. Earlier this summer, Andrew Speaker was kept under wraps — literally — at National Jewish, after his global run from a tuberculosis diagnosis. And yesterday, fugitive fundraiser Norman Hsu wound up in a Grand Junction hospital, after being taken off a train headed for Denver. The FBI arrived soon after, since Hsu had skipped out on a California court appearance the day before on a 1991 felony-theft conviction.
Although Hsu could likely be shipped back to California anytime, his antics seem right in line to net him a lengthier stay amidst some of Colorado’s most famous celebrities — who live not in Aspen, but in Florence, where they are residents of ADX, the federal maximum security prison. — Patricia Calhoun
