Colorado-reared Dana Perino, the White House press secretary (and previous Westword profile subject), co-stars in today’s installment of Doonesbury, and in a neat bit of typecasting, she’s cast as an icy villainess. Whoda thunk it?

Over the past week or so, the Doonesbury plotline has focused on Rick Redfern, a longtime Washington Post reporter who, like so many veteran journalists before him, is being forced to take a buyout. Obviously, the word’s gotten around, because at the daily White House press briefing, Perino freezes him out — although Redfern gets the last word, as well as a small, albeit insignificant, measure of revenge.
