The weeks following Christmas are tough for local malls — particularly older ones whose battle for survival becomes more touch and go with each passing year. That’s certainly the case for Tamarac Square, at 7777 E. Hampden. These days, the first thing shoppers see if they’re approaching the center from the west are giant placards announcing that Pine Creek Clothing, one of the mall’s more prominent retailers, is holding a going-out-of-business sale. Inside, however, Rosey’s Apparel, a store near Pine Creek, is refusing to go quietly. Its front windows are papered with placards announcing a “NOT GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE.”
Keep fighting the good fight, Rosey. — Michael Roberts
