While there’s plenty of talk about ugly buildings popping up all over Denver, there are definitely some designs worth celebrating — and Mayor Michael Hancock did just that yesterday, when he and Brad Buchanan, executive director of Denver Community Planning and Development, honored sixteen projects at the 2015 Mayor’s Design Awards ceremony.
“With this year’s winning projects we have a little of everything that makes Denver Denver,” Hancock said at the ceremony at the Ellie. “That is, history, modernity, creativity, vitality and community. These property owners, community members and design professionals have done beautiful work that has improved our urban landscape.”
This is the tenth anniversary year for the awards, which don’t necessarily honor new projects (Izakaya Den, for example, is certainly a stunner — but several years old) or even renovation work done in the previous year. Keeping that in mind, here are the 2015 Mayor’s Design Award winners:
