The corner of 11th Avenue and Lincoln Street has swallowed a lot of restaurants over the years; Krewe Crescent City BBQ didn’t even make it a year. Opened on Super Bowl weekend last spring, Krewe is closing today with a plan to reopen as an expansion of Stoney’s Bar and Grill next door.

The building is owned by Curt Sims, who once ran the Denver Buffalo Company here and, when it wound up back in his hands two years ago, tried the short-lived Cantina.

Then Stoney Jesseph and Will Trautman, who operate Stoney’s, decided to try putting Krewe in that spot — but business was far from smoking. Now the two plan to convert the vacant space into a private party area for Stoney’s.

Unlike the corner spot, which has seen many bars and clubs come and go — the Hive, the Donkey Den, Sutra and Cielo among them — Stoney’s has made itself at home in the Golden Triangle’s bar scene for more than four years. Maybe combining the two addresses will finally lift the curse.
