Party Wizard: Conjuring The Hesher Daze

For a party atmosphere and art that’s smart and street, head to Broadway and Lowbrow Denver, where the beer will flow and Sharpie works by Partylord and Wizardbong will adorn the walls. Keep walking south to Indyink for a second helping of art from Sam Turner and Preston Weippert.

Current exhibitions at Havu juxtapose Homare Ikeda’s playful — and beautiful — paintings with Nancy Lovendahl’s stacked sculptural works. They’ll both be in the house for mid-show First Friday festivities; in addition, the mezzanine is hung with drawings by Dennis Mitchell.

CHAC gears up up for its busiest show of the year with a fresh Day of the Dead exhibition of grinning calaveras, skeletons and altars. Aztec dancers will bless the works and perform on First Friday and will be back on October 17 for a blowout DOD celebration with food and a traditional procession. For counterpoint, CHAC is also hosting an edgier group exhibition, Who’s the Immigrant Now? CUIDADO, in October.

Found Above Ground
Opening reception: 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, October 3
Street artist Heretik also gets into the Day of the Dead mindset for an October show of truly 21st-century folk art at the Louisville men’s resale boutique Found Above Ground, including antique figurines repainted in the artist’s own high-contrast style. French Kettle Station will provide the soundtrack at this small-town reception.

Great Plains: Three Point Perspective

Revisit this three-person show about landscape and place on First Friday, when artist/musician Reed Weimer will entertain with a strolling suite of songs that accompany his paintings from an ongoing autobiographical series, “History Lessons.” Pedal steel guitarist Glenn Taylor will also lend some tunes in Helikon’s handsome gallery.
