Spring has sprung at Denver International Airport, where “Denver Lily,” by local artist Price Davis, is blooming in the center of the Jeppesen Terminal — on the very spot where the misfiring “Mountain Mirage” once stood, and some Audi tent igloos were installed until five days ago. The flower, made of recycled steel and more than 8,000 one-inch nuts, is a definite improvement. “By installing a giant flower sculpture in the center of Jeppesen Terminal, our goal is to surprise and delight passengers during spring, while showcasing a local artist and his talent,” said Denver International Airport’s Art and Culture Manager Chris Stevens, in announcing the temporary addition. “This bright sculpture is monumental in height, standing 28-feet-tall, which also highlights the scale of Jeppesen Terminal’s iconic tent roof architecture.”
You can see Davis’s work at DIA until May. A multi-modal craftsman with an emphasis on architecture, he’s been working as an artist since the mid-’80s. Learn more about him at pricedavisgallery.com.
