Update: The band has just released a statement on the crash: Two members remain hospitalized and are in serious condition, and frontman George Lewis Jr. is scheduled for reconstructive hand surgery this week. The full statement is below.
New York-based Twin Shadow was scheduled to perform on Friday at the Bluebird Theater in Denver. The act’s two tour buses were near E-470 on I-70 early that morning when the one holding crew members collided with a semi tractor trailer. The Aurora Police Department reports that rescue workers took twelve people who were on the bus to the hospital with “minor to serious injuries.”
The police have also said that dense fog was a factor, and that ultimately both tour buses and two trucks were involved in the crash. I-70 was closed in both directions for about an hour.
Denver Post reporter Jesse Paul posted live updates from the scene, and the Post has this report. They spoke with Dorella Zahn, mother of Twin Shadow’s touring bass and keyboard player Spencer Zahn. According to Paul and Zahn, the majority of the injuries were to members of the crew.
Update: The band’s record label, Warner Brothers, has just released the following statement:
Driving on Friday morning April 17th, Twin Shadow’s tour bus hit a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70 in Aurora, Colorado. The circumstances surrounding the accident are being investigated.
There were 12 people on the tour bus consisting of band and crew. Everyone was taken to two local hospitals. At this time both driver John Crawford and Twin Shadow drummer Andy Bauer remain hospitalized, in serious condition. George Lewis Jr. AKA Twin Shadow will be undergoing reconstructive hand surgery this week.
While everyone involved in the accident recovers, Twin Shadow are postponing tour dates scheduled for April 21- May 22nd.
