There’s no talking about a storied DIY venue in Denver history without taking a look back at the fliers for shows at Rhinoceropolis. Sometimes these works were a collaboration between a visual artist and musicians; other times the pieces were made by musicians themselves. But fleirs have always been a way to convey information and simultaneously a feeling and that feeling for Rhino was undeniable – whatever is going to happen there on any given night, it’s going to be fucking cool.
For a place like Rhinoceropolis, often these works of art have been as memorable as the shows they were touting. Here, we’ve shared just a handful this visual history from some of Rhinoceropolis’s hundreds of shows over the last decade. With work from Milton Melvin Croissant III, Katrin Davis, Travis Egedy, Ryan Riss and many more creators. It is merely a surface survey, but everything from the hand-drawn to computer-generated to collage poster pieces show off just what makes Rhinoceropolis so great — the people who make the art inside of it.
