All Time Low is at an all-time high.
With the upcoming release of its tenth studio album, Everyone’s Talking!, on Friday, October 17, the beloved Maryland pop-punk crew of vocalist-guitarist Alex Gaskarth, guitarist Jack Barakat, drummer Rian Dawson and bassist Zack Merrick is back on the road to promote it. The band stopped at Red Rocks on October 12, with Mayday Parade, the Cab and the Paradox.
Despite the busy schedule, Westword was able to catch up with Gaskarth to cover everything from the latest, which he believes is ATL’s “most realized” work yet, to what it takes to be in a band with the same running mates for twenty-plus years, making every second last. So we’ll let Gaskarth be the narrator here and tell another tale of the American dream.
Westword: First off, how’s the band feeling with the release of Everyone’s Talking!, especially since the singles have been so well-received?
Alex Gaskarth: We’re excited and ramping up. Things feel buzzy around the band and the new music and that’s a really cool place to be this deep into our career. With the twenty-year celebration shows we spent a lot of time looking back and reflecting. Now it’s time to be excited about the future.
How does All Time Low approach writing a new record?
Everything we’re doing is in-house now. The album is more-or-less self-made and self-produced, with my writing partner Dan Swank at the helm and our small team of trusted collaborators. It’s coming out on our own label, Basement Noise Records. We’ve been very much in the driver’s seat through this entire process, and while that does add some pressure, it made for a really exciting creative process. I feel like this is the most realized version of ATL so far, and we’re saying it with our whole chest.
Having the same lineup for twenty-plus years is rare, not to mention all of the success along the way. So what exactly keeps All Time Low going at this point?
We have a lot of love for each other. We’re basically family. We keep things up front and straightforward and try to make sure everyone is represented within the band and heard. And we all still love doing it. It’s the fans and the shows that keep it fun, all the support we’ve felt over the years. Every time we hit the stage it feels so rewarding.
This far in, is there a plan for the next five, ten, twenty years now?
I think we take it one album cycle at a time, then we check in, evaluate where the band is and what else we want to achieve, figure out what’s left to say, and go from there.
Going off that, the future looks as bright as ever for the band, so what’s next?
We’re hitting the road! So many dates ahead of us, all over the world. The most rewarding part of making a new album is playing the songs live.
Lastly, what can fans expect when checking out an All Time Low concert in 2025?
We’re bringing it all. Old songs, new songs, everything in between. And great vibes. It’s all about the vibes.
Everyone’s Talking! releases on all platforms Friday, October 17.
