You don’t have to be a musician to know that recording music is crucial. It captures and immortalizes the songs, albums and other releases we love to listen to, which end up serving as nostalgic time capsules for us later in life. There are more tools available nowadays to make do-it-yourself, homemade recordings sound better than ever, but Colorado is also home to several reputable recording studios that have been behind some of the most popular releases out there.

While studios are usually focused on helping artists track, mix,and master their songs, many of them also offer rentable rehearsal spots, with isolated, treated acoustic spaces, separated control rooms, and sometimes more.

Whether you’re looking for a studio that’s close to where you live or you want to skip town for a few days to record your masterpiece, here are nine of Colorado’s most-acclaimed recording studios that can help you bring your next big hit to life.

Blasting Room

Fort Collins
One of Colorado’s most notorious recording studios is the Blasting Room in Fort Collins. It was founded in 1994 by Bill Stevenson, who is an icon in his own right as the principal songwriter behind punk legends Descendents and as the drummer for Black Flag and ALL. The Blasting Room has built up a strong legacy in Colorado ever since, and has been behind several of punk’s biggest and most seminal releases. While there are way too many releases recorded here to name even the most famous, the studio’s work includes notable recent and older releases from Rise Against, the Yawpers, Dead Pioneers, Propaghandi, Gregory Alan Isakov, NOFX, Rise Against and, of course, Descendents.
