The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in identifying a suspect who attacked someone at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

The felony assault took place around 10 p.m. on October 22, during Dutch electronic-music producer Martin Garrix’s three-night run at the legendary venue. “A victim was struck in the face by an unidentified man after a disagreement over general admission seating in row 24,” the sheriff’s office shared on X. “The victim suffered multiple broken facial bones and a fractured leg.”

The post included security photos of a group associated with the suspect, who is described as a 5-foot-9 Asian or Pacific Islander adult male, weighing about 180 pounds. He was wearing a striped, button-up shirt.

“Because the surveillance footage is unclear,” the sheriff’s office added, “we are specifically looking for eyewitnesses who saw the assault in row 24 on October 22, 2025. If you were in that area, or know someone who was, your information could make the difference.”

Jeffco investigator Aaron Kilbon says that the victim is still on the road to recovery after receiving facial reconstructive surgery. “He’s on the mend. He’s got a good partner who was with him on the night of the incident,” he tells Westword. “So he’s doing okay in spirit, [but] any assault like that is going to rock you to your core; it will make you afraid to even leave the house.”

According to Kilbon, video footage supplied by Red Rocks confirmed the victim’s report that he had been at the venue since 7 p.m., and that around 10 p.m., the group and suspect pushed their way into the seating area. When the victim asked for some space, noting that he and his partner had been there for three hours, the suspect punched him. A video taken by an audience member showed the assault, Kilbon says, but only the side of the suspect’s head is noticeable.

No one reported the assault to security that night.

The victim and his partner left immediately after the incident, and he went to the hospital the next day. “On October 24, he had reported it to Denver [Police Department],” Kilbon says. (Red Rocks is owned by the City of Denver). “He got assessed medically and realized the facial fractures beneath the left eye, underneath the orbital. And then it got transferred through to me because of serious bodily injury, which upgraded into a second-degree assault, on October 27.”

Despite the delay, Kilbon was able to put together a timeline and identify the suspect with the help of Red Rocks staffers. “The Red Rocks staff were absolutely fantastic,” he says, “and really, truly instrumental in giving me unfettered access to the entire camera system for that day.”

“We hate it when someone’s night at Red Rocks ends with an injury and there’s never a reason for violence against fellow fans,” says Brian Kitts, Red Rocks Amphitheatre spokesman. “We’re providing the sheriff’s office with the information we have and join them in asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect.”

Kilbon says that the JeffCo sheriff’s office only handles Red Rocks cases that become felonies; in the past five years, there have been four cases, including the current assault. Two others, involving drugging, are unsolved. “We’ve gotten 930 reports since 2008,” he adds, noting that they include incidents occurring both within and outside concert hours.

The video could be key to solving this case. “We’re hoping that, certainly to the degree of injuries that my victim sustained,” Kilbon says, “that somebody has a good heart and says, ‘Man, this guy got really messed up,’ and hopefully knows one or a few of these individuals, that maybe we can have a chat with and see if there’s any other evidence.”

Red Rocks does “a lot in terms of the accountability, the safety aspect,” Kilbon says. “There’s always been a strong, heavy presence of security there. Unfortunately, you mix alcohol and large crowds…there’s really not much they can do to stop people from doing what they’re going to do.”

Kilbon is continuing to investigate, and asking any witnesses to come forward. “Any videos from around the area of about row 24, left of the amphitheater, stage right, looking at the left speaker column at about 10 o’clock at night,” he says. “And if they have something, or they did see it, or they have camera footage, or anything, it would really help this investigation, absolutely.”
