More people, more problems…traffic problems, that is. The Town of Windsor, which was recently named the state’s biggest boomtown, just earned another title: the home of Colorado’s worst drivers.

Windsor has Colorado’s highest rate of traffic incidents per 1,000 drivers, according to a LendingTree report. The company analyzed cities based on insurance reports involving car accidents, speeding tickets and impaired driving offenses from January through September of 2025, and Windsor wound up with 23 incidents per 1,000 drivers. That rate is five times higher than in Centennial, the city that rated the best drivers in Colorado.

The comments on the Westword Facebook post of the news provide a crash course on people’s views of drivers not just in Windsor (and BTW, those who dispute the photo should know it came from the town’s website), but across the state and the rest of the country. Says Amy:

This is funny, because I drove over from a neighboring town and noticed it was like people in Windsor were just making up their own driving laws.

Adds Kaylee:

As someone who drives for a living and worked the Windsor area, this is pretty accurate, haha. The amount of people who don’t know how to use a damn roundabout is so annoying.

Explains Lola:

Look, it’s hard to be a good driver when they specifically make cars for NOCO without turn signals.

Notes Brandon:

I believe it. Big difference between 2016 and when I came back in 2022, but I have to say it’s because everyone moved here and over-population. All the things that used to look nice look modern now, and slowly land is disappearing, getting rid of the beauty that once was. Slowly being ruined over time. Oh, and the Foothills Mall looked better and was better back before the remake. Now people moving up to Horsetooth and mountains tainting the beauty there, too.

Suggests Zac:

They’ve all come down from Wyoming or up from Denver.

It’s all the Texans moving to Colorado.

I’m just saying, as someone who moved from New England, no one in this world could possibly drive worse than people from Massachusetts. Driving here is a piece of cake in comparison.

Responds Janette:

As a person who grew up in Windsor and now lives in the Northeast, I can confirm that Massholes are some of the worst drivers! As well as NY, Maine and VA! The left lane is not for you if people are passing you in the right side…just sayin’.

I heavily disagree. I grew up in Pittsburgh, went to college in Maine, have family in Connecticut and Vermont. Spent lots of time in Boston, etc. While Mass drivers may make crazy decisions, I wouldn’t say they’re bad. They’re just jerks…highly skilled jerks. Now I’ve been in Northern Colorado for the past three years. These drivers are just dumb.

Concludes Alex:

If you haven’t lived in other parts of the country, you don’t have the knowledge to meaningfully contribute to this discussion. Colorado drivers are fine. Boston drivers? Chicago? Experience those drivers and you’ll realize how lucky you have it here.

What do you think of Colorado drivers? Which parts of the state have the worst drivers? And how do they stack up to bad drivers in the rest of the country?Post a comment or share your thoughts at editorial@westword.com.
