Elijah Wood to DJ at Cervantes’

Grab your cloaks, Lembas bread and Light of Eärendil: Elijah Wood is coming to Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom this spring. (Leave your Elven blades at home.)

Yes, the actor best known for playing adventurous hobbit Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings trilogy is part of a vinyl DJ project. Dubbed Wooden Wisdom, the duo comprises Wood and Zach Cowie, another actor (Celeste & Jesse Forever, Isn’t It Romantic, The Little Hours), DJ and vinyl aficionado, and will be headlining Denver’s FAN EXPO as well.

Wooden Wisdom will be at Cervantes’ on Sunday, May 31, following the FAN EXPO set. The event is described as “a fantasy-themed event like no other — a full-blown Lord of the Rings rave experience set to the sound of carefully curated vinyl selections.” Attendees are encouraged to get decked out in costumes appropriate for being transported to Middle Earth (hopefully not Mordor).

The announcement comes as the world is celebrating The Fellowship of the Ring‘s 25th anniversary. The groundbreaking film scored four Oscars out of thirteen nominations; the final installment in the trilogy, The Return of the King, would go on to make history with eleven Academy Awards, winning all of its nominations. Lining up to see these films at midnight was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and the anniversary serves as a nostalgia-inducing reminder of the trilogy’s historic impact on cinema and fantasy fans.

Wood and Cowie started Wooden Wisdom as a hobby in 2005, committing to all-vinyl sets, and they’ve toured around the world and at various fan conventions. The release describes the sets as weaving together “rare gems and beloved classics, with lots of ’70s & ’80s disco.”
