Shit-talkers, your time has come. Today is a new day — a day in which your rapacious ways will trump the mawkish and oversensitive. A day in which you may actually win a cash prize (at least $250) for being just that much meaner than everyone else. Yes, the KBPI Yell Fest 3 — aka Denver’s Meanest Person Contest — is back. Participants, get ready to go straight for the jugular or make a beeline for below the belt.
It’s not as easy as it might seem. Adam Ford, sound guy at Bender’s 13th Avenue Tavern, where the Yell Fest preliminaries were held, says most people freeze up — and audience members actually come up with the most biting insults.
Still, according to host Chuck Roy, things are black and white: If you participate, you aren’t a pussy. If you don’t, and just cower in the crowd, well, you are a pussy. So be it, Chuck. The emcee has spoken.
To sign up, go to www.chuckroy.com/yellfest.htm and fill out the online registration form for a $5 fee. Doors open at 8 p.m. at the Oriental Theater, 4335 West 44th Avenue; the mudslinging starts at 9. Admission is $5; call 303-455-2124 or go to www.theorientaltheater.com for more.
Wed., Dec. 13, 9 p.m.
Will you step up to support Westword this year?
At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $22,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
