Boulder has always had sex appeal, but the Boulder Exotica Erotica Ball will take things up a notch when it lands at Shine Restaurant and Gathering Place tonight — a new location. The ball had been held at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art for many years, but that venue decided to focus on less, um, adventurous programming.
“It’s the only adult masquerade party in Boulder,” says organizer Steve Wallis, “and we’re trying to encourage a promiscuous atmosphere.”
The night includes sultry performances from burlesque and pole dancers, freak-show acts and a nonstop seductive dance party. To get people in the mood, Shine’s bar will serve up elixirs and potions known for doing just that. Costumes are required to get in — the more risqué the better: “We don’t have any rules or restrictions; it’s as crazy as people want to get,” says Wallis.
The provocative event begins at 9 p.m. at Shine, 2027 13th Street; tickets are $20 and can be purchased at exoticaball.com.
