East Colfax’s quiet renaissance of cool is about to get a lot louder as the Super Block Party, tonight from 7 to 11 p.m., announces the arrival of the newest of Denver’s groovy hot spots. The free party kicks off a series of regular “Second Saturday” events organized by cupcake and cereal bar the Shoppe, fashion/art collective the Fabric Lab and collectible-toy emporium Plastic Chapel, three of the hip new businesses revitalizing the ‘Fax’s 3100 block.
Joined by the Neapolitan, a newly opened art gallery, the three are planning a blowout shindig. DJs will spin tunes at various venues through the evening, while a custom toy show featuring the work of a wide range of local artists and designers will be spread among the stops, sharing space with art shows by Sandra Fettingis and Rob Garner. Fabric Lab is offering a rare sale — 20 percent off — and a screening of the graffiti movie Wild Style. And then there are the refreshments: free gourmet cupcakes and free beer.
That’s right, free PBR to slake that endless hipster thirst.
If there isn’t something on this list that you like, check your pulse; you’re probably already dead. The living can join the fun at any of several locations along the block: Start at the Shoppe, 3103 East Colfax, and continue door to door from there.
