Just about anything local artist Lauri Lynnxe Murphy does is a-ok with me. Whether it’s making art, promoting art or teaching it, she’s always in the driver’s seat, full of purpose and brimming with creativity. And now she’s offering a class so propelled by what drives her that I (and you, and anyone else within a hundred miles of here) would be crazy not to consider taking it. Murphy will lead Art From Anything: The Fundamentals of Collage, a six-week class at the Art Students League of Denver that she says will cover everything from the history of the medium to modern techniques to the plethora of innovative materials on the market. Call it extreme scrapbooking for creative adults. “My main philosophy for the class fits my whole philosophy about art, anyway,” she says. “That anything can be an art material, anything is fair game.” This from a woman who once made a fur coat out of cut-up stuffed animals.
