Oakland-based artist Desirée Holman is admittedly a bit of a geek when it comes to otherworldly things, from auras to aliens, and that’s the subject matter she taps visually in her ongoing project, Sophont. Begun in 2012, Sophont is a multimedia mixture of light, video, sound and physical paintings that incorporates both pop culture-driven imagery and more atmospheric visions.

Curator Cortney Lane Stell brings Holman and Sophont — in all its spacey parts and pieces — to the Philip J. Steele Gallery at the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design for an exhibition that opens tonight with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. and then runs through November 23.
