Many happy hours are designed to decimate participants — but not Dewey After Hours, a new series hosted by the Denver Public Library Friends Foundation at the Central branch, 10 West 14th Avenue Parkway. The idea was “to put together an event that offers a new way to experience the library,” says DPL spokeswoman Celeste Jackson, and tonight’s Mixology at the Library certainly qualifies. Some of Denver’s top restaurants — including City, O’ City, Squeaky Bean, Baur’s Ristorante, Trios Enoteca and Dazzle — will create cocktail and appetizer pairings, and the 250 or so lucky tipplers in attendance will vote for their favorites. This after-hours event — it starts at 5:30 p.m. and runs until after the library closes at 7:30 — will be held on the seventh floor, in the spacious Vida Ellison Gallery overlooking the city; future installments will include a summer bocce game on the library’s north lawn. Tickets to Mixology, available for those 21 and up, are $35, and proceeds benefit the library’s Summer of Reading, a literacy program in which 3,000 kids participate.
