It’s been fourteen dog years since the last Lucky Mutt Strut, but the 5K fun run and walk, which benefits the MaxFund No-Kill Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, will return today after having skipped 2012. The 25-year-old MaxFund gives cats and dogs a “second leash” on life, placing more than 1,000 animals in new homes every year.

“This year’s Strut promises to be fun for both humans and canines, says MaxFund boardmember Tami Tanoue. “The run/walk course at Cheesman Park is easy, scenic and suitable for varying fitness levels.”

Pre-registration is $30, and event-day registration, which starts at 7:30 a.m., is $35. Both two-legged and four-legged runners will line up at 9 a.m.; walkers start at 9:15. Can’t make it but still want to help? Register as a “Lazy Dogz and Sleepy Catz” supporter and stay in bed for $30.

MaxFund is planning a host of accompanying family-friendly activities, including a post-race picnic; visit blacktie-colorado.com/rsvp and enter event code MaxFund511 for tickets and information.
