Colorado is full of people who love the outdoors and chock-full of people who love their dogs. So when they can take their dogs with them outdoors, well, that’s the gold standard — and that’s exactly what today’s Skijoring Clinic at Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa in Tabernash is all about.
“The clinic doesn’t just teach people how to ski with their dogs,” says Devil’s Thumb Ranch spokeswoman Holly Johnson. “A critical component of that is the communication between the person and their dogs.”
Louisa Morrissey, who founded and runs Skijor n’ More, a dog-training company, teaches the classes; her specialty is enhancing human-dog communication, and as her company name would indicate, she also specializes in skijoring (which can be done with a horse, too — but not in these classes).
The Skijoring Clinic runs today from 10 a.m. to noon and costs $30 if you bring your own leash and harness, $45 for a harness-included package; ski equipment rental is $10.
