Just to be clear, there will be no actual zombies fighting at Fight to Win Productions’ Zombies Cage Fights tonight. Nor will the fighters themselves be dressed as zombies — though, as FTW owner Seth Daniels acknowledges, “that would be awesome.” But there will be zombies, and there will be cage fights, and really, what more do you need?
“Locally, cage fights are all the same — they’re real dry,” Daniels explains, and while that’s probably the first time anybody has ever described a cage fight as “dry,” we’ll go with it. “We’re just trying to add more elements of fun, to make it more of an experience than just going to watch a fight.” Not that there won’t be fights: There will be twelve of them — five pro, seven amateur — and they’ll be just as bloody and awesome as mixed martial arts fights are expected to be. But on top of the real blood, there will also be a lot of fake blood in the audience: The $1,000 zombie costume contest, sponsored by Gott-A-Costume, and the free beer you’ll get for showing up as a zombie virtually guarantee it.
Zombies lurches to life tonight at 7 p.m. at the National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt Street. For tickets, $30 to $100, or more information, visit www.fighttowinmma.com.
