Everyone loves to eat, right? From salt-and-vinegar potato chips to milk chocolate, steaks to shrimp, crab legs to McNuggets — I’ll eat (and love) almost anything. Just thinking about the newest round of Taste Test at the Lab at Belmar (and the last ever at the Lakewood location)made me hungry enough to buy a Twix.

The well-received series “investigates the foods that we eat through a combination of history, science, anthropology and culinary arts,” says Sarah Skeen, the Lab’s manager of development and operations. “That combination of things is what creates the umbrella for Taste Test.”

Taste Test: Chocolate begins tonight at 6:30 p.m., with Bridget Coughlin (deputy chief curator and curator of human health at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science), William Poole (chef and founder of Wen Chocolate) and Rebecca Peizer (chef instructor at the Culinary School of the Rockies) all examining the different aspects of chocolate through their varying expertise.

The Lab is at 404 South Upham Street in Lakewood. This season’s four Taste Test events (the others are sugar, green chiles and pizza) are sold out, but if you hurry, you can get on a waiting list. Tickets are $25 for the public and $20 for members; for details, call 303-934-1777 or go to www.belmarlab.org.
Thursdays, 6 p.m. Starts: March 5. Continues through March 26, 2009
