We already love that the Denver Public Library’s changing, themed, free Fresh City Life programs always include a cooking series from season to season, offering culinary tips, demonstrations and samples for every local closet gourmet worth a dash of salt. Fittingly, in a fledgling new year marked by the need to tighten our purse strings, Fresh City will show us ways to avoid also tightening our belts this winter: Under the theme of “I Will Cook at Home and $ave,” Chef Jessica Gaydos will focus on thrifty cooking in a series beginning in February.
But here’s the deal: At least some of the recipes demonstrated by Gaydos will be yours, if you dare to submit your favorite cheap and easy dishes to Fresh City’s Chris Loffelmacher, who will be accepting public submissions of tested recipes throughout January for use in the February demos. And that includes any recipe you love, included your own, your Grandma’s classic or one from a beloved, dogeared cookbook, as long as you’re prepared to document the source.
Go on, dip your ladle into the sauce! Submit recipes by email to Loffelmacher by January 30; for details on the workshops and call for dishes visit www.denverlibrary.org/fresh.
