Today, a handful of luthiers — those who build and repair string instruments — will converge on South Broadway’s Acoustic Music Revival for the Colorado Custom Guitar Showcase, an all-day display of their finest instruments. For guitar buffs, this mini-convention is a free, one-of-a-kind ax heaven, as luthiers from around the state will bring their handmade wares for discussion and purchase.
The focus is on guitars specifically, but “if anyone brings in a mandolin, we aren’t going to kick them out,” jokes shop co-owner Shawn Winchester.
This is the first handcrafted-instrument show for the store, which Winchester and her husband, Bob Laughlin, opened more than twenty years ago. But it’s just one of many music-related events they host throughout the year. And you don’t need to be an instrument expert yourself to enjoy the showcase; the owners stress that all interested parties, from beginning to accomplished musicians, are welcome.
The Colorado Custom Guitar Showcase is free and open to all ages; it runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Acoustic Music Revival, 3445 South Broadway. For information, visit www.acousticmusicrevival.com or call 303-744-1737.
