Recycling, composting and relying on solar energy are just a few ways to make the earth a healthier place. But where to begin? And if you’ve already started, where do you go from here? The EarthWorks Expo has plenty of ideas. “We want everyone — no matter if they already have solar panels on the roof or they’re just thinking about recycling for the first time — to come away with different ways that they can make the earth a healthier place,” says expo director Michael Lindemann. “We focus on practical skills that people can take away and use immediately.”

The Expo, which runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow, focuses on local sustainable-living practices and features 150 green exhibitors, 42 workshops on everything from edible landscaping to passive solar techniques, two keynote speakers (Albert Bates and Woody Tasch), and music by Jennifer Friedman and Jack Hadley. This year, the Denver Zoo will also bring in live birds and animals for the EarthKIDS! area.

It’s all at the Denver Merchandise Mart, 451 East 58th Avenue; admission is $5. For more information, go to www.earthworks2009.com or call 1-970-416-8700.

Sat., Aug. 22, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sun., Aug. 23, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 2009
