Snowboarder and Aspenite Gretchen Bleiler will be hosting the 3rd Annual CoverGirl Snow Angels Invitational this weekend, April 2-4 in the Snowmass Superpipe. The main event is on Saturday April 3, with a jam format contest bringing some of the top female riders from around the world and special awards for Best Trick, Highest Air, and Most Progressive Rider.
“I’m really looking forward to the third annual CoverGirl Snow Angels
Invitational, especially after the craziness of the Olympics,” says Bleiler, the
two-time Olympian and 2010 Winter X Games gold medalist, in a press release this week from Aspen/Snowmass. “This will be a great opportunity to focus on progressive
riding and quality time with all of the girls.”
Kelly Clark, Bleiler, and Ellery Hollingsworth held the podium last
year; watch for Colorado locals like Maddy Schaffrick (Steamboat
Springs) and Clair Bidez (Minturn) to give them a run for it this time
around.
Shaffrick’s one of the youngest riders on the pro
circuit – she’ll be celebrating her Sweet 16 in April – and she’s coming
up fast. She finished 6th at last year’s Snow Angels Invitational and
rode off with Best Trick and Most Progressive Rider honors for her
switch backside 720 and her switch backside 720 to backside 900 combo.
When
the day is done, you can have a (soft) drink with Shaffrick and après
party with the rest of the ladies in the Eight
K Lounge at the Viceroy Hotel.
