At some point in all lives, we’ve all wanted to live in a tree house, but perhaps no one more so than tree house expert Pete Nelson, who will kick off this year’s Bonfils-Stanton lecture series at the Denver Botanic Gardens.

“He’s extremely passionate about building tree houses,” says DBG education sales coordinator Sarah Spearman. “From what I understand, this is something that’s been his bliss since he was a young person, and he followed his bliss and decided to create a career out of building tree houses.” Nelson will discuss his work traveling the country, building custom-designed tree houses, she adds. “He has a nice way of…talking about the transformative power of being in a tree house and how it can rejuvenate you and lift your spirits.”

Other speakers in the tree-focused series — the official title is “Beyond Bark: Playing, Learning, Growing in Denver’s Canopy” — include a bonsai expert, a person with a passion for foraging for food in trees, an ikebana specialist and someone who takes very close-up pictures of tree bark.

Nelson’s Tree House Talk starts at 7 p.m. and costs $15 for Denver Botanic Gardens members and $20 for non-members. The Gardens are at 1007 York Street; call 720-865-3580 or visit www.botanicgardens.org.
